Meet our Staff

Scout Master

Aimee Barry ~
I have been selected to be the scoutmaster for this fantastic course. I love this program and this training that I have been privileged to be a part of for 9 years. I have used this leadership that is taught through this training at home with my children and husband, at work with colleagues and employees, in my church callings, and in my scout callings. I have gained a new family through the friendships that have been formed.

I have been married to my wonderful husband, Tom for 21 years; we have 2 children who love the scouting program as much as we do. As a family we are heavily involved in the local soccer club, both kids play competitively and both Tom and I are on the board and Tom helps coach. In the few spare days that we have we enjoy camping in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter.
My husband turned me onto scouting not too long after we were married, however I didn’t ‘Catch the Vision’ until after I attended Wood Badge in 2008. Once I attended Wood Badge I came to understand why Tom was so involved in the Scouting Program, and have been on staff every year since, trying to help share that vision with other leaders. I have been involved in Scouting as an Advancement Chairman for over 16 years, and watched the program change the lives of so many boys over the years. If the program is ran the way it is designed, the boys are turned into young men and then into adults within a blink of an eye. I have also worked with the Young Women in my Church and have enjoyed using the same concepts in that program allowing the girls to succeed and fulfill their potential. In 2010 Tom and I started a Community Unit in Rigby to bring Scouting to additional youth in the area that didn’t have the opportunity to enjoy and learn from the benefits of Scouting. This unit has grown from a few Cub Scouts to approximately 50 youth from Lion age scouts up to a Co-ed Venture Crew. It is a huge accomplishment and we are very grateful for all the wonderful leaders who have volunteered to help change more lives of youth in our area.

I am excited to share this Wood Badge experience with you and challenge each of you to open your hearts to the lessons being taught over the next 6 days and allow them to be applied to whatever area you are involved in back in your home, your units, your work or your religious organizations. The lessons being taught here this week can be used in every aspect of your life.

Sr. Patrol Leader

Tom Romriell

Tom has been involved in scouting for 20+ years. He has a deep love for this program and believes in what it can do to prepare our youth for the future. When he is not busy with scouting, he works as a full-time Service Writer, part-time farmer, and full-time plus over time dad to 9 kids. Tom loves to hunt, (I mean he really, really loves it!), fish, ride horses, and just about any thing else in the great outdoors.

Doug Pruitt

I started scouting by hanging around the scouts in the troop where my dad served as Scout Master.  The scouts made me feel welcome and encouraged me to always do my best.  They became big brothers for me and I loved the feeling of the patrol method.  I have loved scouting through cubs and looked forward to serving on council camp staff after attending Treasure Mountain as a scout.  I earned my Eagle with a lot of help from family and my troop in 1989.  I served on Treasure Mountain camp staff and NYLT Cedar Badge staff for several years as a youth and loved every minute.  I have loved serving in many volunteer positions as my sons progressed through the scouting program.  I have also enjoyed serving on Wood Badge courses with many friends and making new ones all the while.  The Wood Badge training was a turning point where I learned that the boys need to be lead through their own development as they learn to lead others.  I had always looked at the scouting program as a team building and performing process, but after attending Wood Badge, I understood that each youth will progress through self discovery of their talents and abilities and that we as adult leaders are there to help them understand that they all need to know themselves as they learn to serve and work with the team.  I certainly understand the importance of knowing your own strengths and looking to others in the team to fortify my weaknesses.  The Wood Badge training certainly made my understanding of self better and I understood how I could contribute better to my family, my church, my work and my scouting organization.

Bert Creasey

Hi, I am Bert Creasey and my dear wife, Berdeen, and I have 1 daughter, 3 sons (who are all Eagle Scouts), and 4½ grandchildren. I was born and raised in Idaho Falls, but we have also lived in Georgia and Maryland. I have worked at INL for over 30 years. I have been involved with Scouting since 1988 when I was an Assistant Scoutmaster. I am honored to have this opportunity to share this fabulous time on our Wood Badge course with you.

Wood Badge – I attended Wood Badge in 2006 thinking it would make my position as a Webelos Den Leader easier. However, I learned so much more than the Scouting program from Cubs to Venturing. It helped make me a better leader, a better communicator, and a better husband and father.

I have been involved in Scouting for most of my married life of 36 years.  Have served in most Souting Positions in all the Scouting families.  Currently I am district Program Chairman and Team Coach in my local unit.  Wood Badge has been a great training for me and have now been on six courses.  I am the father of 7 kids and number 18 grand kid will soon be here.  I love the outdoors and would really love to be on the end of a fishing pole.  Scouting Rules!

Council Professional Advisor

     Erick Simmons

My earliest memories of Scouting come from seing my father take his Scouts out camping every month.  As a young man I served several years on Cedar Badge Staff as well as being very involved in the Order of the Arrow and Camp Staff at Treasure Mountain and Island Park.  My beautiful wife Kathy and I have three amazing children.  I am blessed to be able to make Scouting my career.  I have been lucky enough to be camp director of all three of the Grand Teton Council’s resident camp as well as Krupp Scout Hollow and Butte Creek Scout in Oregon. We often say that every boy deserves a trained lead.  More than that, I believe that every leader deserves to be trained.  I love the Scouting program and look forward to being a part of this course and growing along with you.

Chad Roberts

I am super excited to be a scribe for the June Woodbadge course.  Two reasons.  One, is I think Aimee is going to be the most excellent course director.  I don't think I would have taken the job as quickly if anybody else had asked me.  I barely knew her from the June course, but I found out enough about her to respect her a lot.  I appreciate her concern for each and every one of the participants.  The people that come to this Wood Badge course are going to learn far more than what they ever imagined, not only from her preparation and hard work, but the spirit that will be here because of it.  Second, prior to being asked to be on staff, I was wishing there was another way of going back to Wood Badge to get a second dose of it.  There is a lot to learn and take in.  By going back I will be able to build my knowledge through hearing it all over again.  I will be able to revisit all the key things that were taught, only from a different perspective, and hopefully grow line upon line and precept upon precept.  I have been in Scouts either directly, or connected in some other way most of my life, and nothing has taught me as much as I learned at Wood Badge.  I promise as a scribe, I will take the photos that will make you look good, as well as preserve the memories and feelings that you will obtain while at the course.  You should be able to look at the photos after the course and remember for years to come.

Quartermasters

Jason Zimmer
My family and I live in Rexburg.  We have been here for about 10 years now.  We moved here from Southern Oregon for school and we never left.  I’ve been helping with the Boy Scouts, Varsity and Venture scouts for the past 7 years.  My son has just turned 12 and he’s so excited to finally be able to come with me on campouts.  It’s going to be a great summer!

My first Wood Badge course was 5 years ago.  The experience has changed the way I look at my role as a Scout and Youth leader, even a parent.  Remember that everything you will do here has meaning.  You will gain skills and insights to mentor and guide youth.

Dustin DeCoria
Dustin on the left in Orange

My name is Dustin DeCoria. I have been married to my beautiful wife, Kayla, for 11 years. We have one son. He is not quite old enough to be in cub scouts but he does know the Gilwell Song. I have served for the past 3-4 years as a Webelos leader, and as an Assistant Commissioner in the North Caribou District for the past 2 years.
I was born and raised here in Idaho Falls. I graduated from Skyline High School. I served a full time Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the South Korea Busan Mission. I attended ISU and transferred to the University of Idaho where I completed my Bachelors degree in Computer Science in 2006.
I have many hobbies and I can never seem to find the time to do them all. camping, hiking, fishing, water and snow ski, Dutch oven cooking, grilling, cooking and eating spicy food to name a few. I have been a member of the Kelly Canyon Ski Patrol for almost 10 years.
I look forward to working with all who join our June course and sharing the scouting spirit found in Woodbadge.

Troop Guides

Ryan Webster

Last June Ryan was the Senior Patrol Leader for Tom Barry, standing directly behind the log.  Part of Ryan's job is to accurately stick the ax in the log while the entire course looks on.  What pressure, but he nailed it.
I was born and raised in Teton Valley Idaho and still live there and love it. Why move away from the promised land right?? I was raised in scouting, had some of the best leaders anyone could ask for, earned my eagle award, and was on top of about every peak surrounding the valley at one point or another. My best memories as a kid all involved scouting in one form or another. I served an LDS mission in Brisbane Australia and would consider moving next to the ocean if someone absolutely made me. The experiences I had there shaped my life for the better for sure. I studied at BYUI for a short time and met my wife, Marilyn Simmons, there country dancing. She grew up in a family of all girls so scouting was a completely foreign language to her. Despite that fact though she has been nothing short of amazing in supporting me in all of my scouting callings and letting me "go" whenever and wherever I have been needed. Most of the past 10 years of our marriage have been scheduled around scout camps, high adventure, campouts, and scouting in general.  We have 4 absolutely awesome kids. Each one is different, but each one is amazingly special. Kara, our oldest daughter, is confident she wants to be a Bobwhite like her daddy some day.
This will be my 4th time in Gilwell. Each time holds a special place in my heart. I fought going for almost 8 years to then only later regret taking so long to finally enrich my life with Woodbadge. Woodbadge has definitely been life training for me. The things that I have learned on course have blessed my family more then they have probably blessed my scouts. I look forward to an amazing course with amazing friends (some of whom I don't even know yet)!!!!

Glen Quigley
Glen brings a lot to this program from humor to experience.  It was amazing watching him last year and he leaves an impression on you.

Hi, my name is Glen!  I am a scouter.  I am married and have four kids, two are involved in scouting.  I am a Cub Master for one unit and Assistant Adviser in a Venturing Crew for the Rigby Community Unit.  I am a welder by day and farmer and scouter by night.  I love the outdoors, enjoy hunting and spending time with my family.  I like CAKE!  Go Bobwhites!

Don Scott

I snuck this photo as Don was practicing his presentation

I grew up in what is now considered a large family.  I’m the second child in the family of eight children.  My wife also came from a family of eight children.

I married Carolyn Longmore in 1962 in the Idaho Falls Temple.  In June we will celebrate our 55th anniversary.  We have six children, two girls and four boys.

I spent the first 5 years of my life in an area called Pingree, Id.  My family moved to a farm in Riverside, Id. in 1948.  I now live about 2 miles from the home I was raised in.  We live on a toy farm as our kids call it.  We’ve had an approved child abuse program for the past 33 years raising and selling sweet corn.  All of our children have been involved in this project.  Our grandchildren that live close now help during the harvest.

I attended school in the Snake River school district.  I graduated from Snake River High School in 1960 and started working for Basic American Foods that fall and retired in 2005.  I attended ISU and worked nights to help to improve my education.  At the time of my retirement, I was working in Corporate Technical Services.  My responsibilities included FDA food plant and warehouse compliance for several food plants and warehouses throughout the United States and Canada.  I also handled any and all customer complaints concerning any issues with the products we manufactured.  I worked closely with the Orthodox Jewish Congregation of America and was introduced as the Mormon Rabbi whenever I visited their offices in New York.

I have served in the Army.

My wife and I have served two missions – one in Cedar Town, Georgia and one in Glendale, California.

I have served as a Scout Master, VS Leader, COR, District Chairman – twice, Council Commissioner.  At the present time the Council Training V. P.  I also served as the person in charge of the Bear Claw (NYLT) program in the Tendoy Council before the two councils merged.

Cancer Survivor - Diagnosed with Cancer in 2001.

IMPORTANCE OF WOOD BADGE

The completion of Wood Badge helps leaders fill the assignment they have in the Scouting program.  They not only do a better job in the scouting program, they become a better spouse, mother or father and member of the community.  I have heard of companies getting their employees involved in the scouting program and making sure they attend Wood Badge to improve the quality of their work in the company.  I have watched individuals make major changes in their jobs as well as the family.
Katie Jones

Got to have some funny people right?

Katie Jones, wife, homeschooling mother of 6. I love learning, and in turn, I enjoy teaching. Gillwell is an excellent training ground for anyone looking to learn and become better. I am a 3 bead Wood Badger. I grew to LOVE scouting through attending Wood Badge. It was through this course that my own resentment left (resentment because up until that point, my knowledge of scouting was only something that took my husband away for weeknight evenings and weekend campouts…) and was replaced with an understanding of the provincial role the scouting program has for our Nation and the World. The aims of scouting and the methods used to reach them are truly inspired. Scouts is a common thread among people of all walks of life. The more people we have involved with a deeper understanding, the better our families, communities, and Nation will become. My new scouting position is Scout Committee Chair in my local unit.

Cortney Jones
This picture sums it up about Cortney.  The model of scouting perfection right there.

Richard Casper
One look at  Richard and you can tell he has a wealth of experience in scouting.   You will definitely benefit from him.  Sorry to cut Doug off there.

I’ve been an adult leader for 32 years in Souting.  I have had the privilege to serve in all levels of Scout leadership.  I have 9 children and 8 grandchildren.  All 5 sons are Eagle Scouts.  Wood Badge changed my life in 2010.  I want to share what I learned with as many good people as possible.

Chris Dixon

I was born and raised in Southern California. I remember having some awesome experiences in Scouts while growing up.  I had some great experiences attending scout camp in California and Utah. After returning home from a church mission, I moved to Utah to attend school. That is where I met my amazing and very patient wife. My wife and I have been married for almost 14 years and we have four wild and pretty sweet children. I currently work for Stevens-Henager College as the Director of Admissions and have to opportunity to help change people's lives. I was able to attend Wood Badge last June and during that time I began to have a better appreciation for the Scouting program. You grow very close to your patrol while at Wood Badge and they become your close friends. I saw and witnessed what Scouts can do for young men and women while attending Wood Badge and I was excited to implement the things I learned in my troop and pack. It was a little overwhelming at first, but I remember it being hard to leave on the last day.

Julie Murri

My name is Julie Murri.  I grew up in Rexburg, Idaho and married a wonderful man named Brian, from St. Anthony, Idaho.  He is a wonderful husband and father to our two amazing boys!  I love living in this area and having the opportunity to have both of our families so close so we can spend time with them.   I have always loved working with kids!  I have taught piano lessons on and off since I was 16.  I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education.  I currently work as a para-professional with special needs kids. I love my job at school, but my first love is my own family.  I have loved working in cub scouts and associating with the boys and watching them learn and grow.  I loved my Wood Badge experience last June!  I learned so much about team work, communication, and how to become a better leader myself.  I encourage everyone to come to Wood Badge and experience all the amazing things this course has to offer to you!!

Asst. Quarter Master/Culinary Experts

Rod Silcock
I have been involved in scouting for 30+ years and have enjoyed the journey.  I had the privilege to be scoutmaster for 8 years of pure pleasure.  I swam the mile every year at camp to encourage the boys about water sports.

Wood Badge is important to me because every boy desreves a trained leader and we owe it to those who come to the training to be prepared to make it a quality experience.  There is more gained at wood badge than just the training, which is why we keep it going.

Sara Quigley

Welcome to Wood Badge! I am so excited to be able to serve you as a cook on staff. I am serving in two different units, one I am an advancement chair and the other I play with the Wolf's as an assistant den leader. I enjoy seeing the boys learn, grow and advance.  Boy Scouts isn't just for boys, I have four children (3 girls and 1 boy) and my oldest is a girl who has been in the Venturing program for over a year and half and enjoys it. My boy is 8 and has done his Tiger and Wolf ranks and enjoys the electives. My mom is a great support at helping with kids so I can serve others.I hope you have an amazing experience and enjoy your time here.
